Melon Pun Print
Melon Pun, also known as the Pineapple Bun, is a nostalgic bakery favorite enjoyed throughout Taiwan and many parts of Asia. Despite its name, it contains neither melon nor pineapple. Instead, it's named after the signature crisscross pattern on its sweet, crispy topping.
Inspired by the charm of vintage bakery posters, CC created this original artwork using traditional silkscreen printing. To achieve its warm, aged appearance, sheets of white cotton paper were carefully stained with coffee before printing. The final 19 × 20 inch artwork was printed by hand using five separate colors, giving each piece rich texture and character.
The playful cat characters are inspired by CC's beloved cats, Nyaw Nyaw and Boji, reimagined as whimsical Melon Pun creations in unique flavors like soda, apple, and green tea. Surrounding them are familiar bakery shapes commonly found in Taiwan, including a crab, fish, and turtle. Each is labeled with Taiwanese phonetic notation, celebrating the language while inviting small moments of cultural discovery.
The typography was also hand drawn by CC, featuring the title "Melon Pun" alongside her artist name, "Seiya Bakery," written in Japanese.
This print is reproduced from the original artwork using a high-resolution large-format scan and printed with archival-quality laser printing on matte photo paper. Every detail, from the texture of the paper to the subtle coffee staining and handmade silkscreen layers, has been carefully preserved.
